Barbi Recanati is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Argentine alternative rock and indie music, standing out not only as a musician but also as a passionate activist and cultural advocate. Her career began as the frontwoman of Utopians, the garage rock band she led for more than a decade. With the band, she performed on some of the region’s biggest stages and earned a Latin Grammy nomination. Following the group’s breakup in 2017, Recanati launched her solo career, redefining her sound by moving away from raw punk and embracing a post-punk and new wave aesthetic shaped by lush synthesizers, chorus-soaked guitars, and an introspective sense of melancholy.

Her critically acclaimed solo debut, *Ubicación en tiempo real* (2020), established her as a leading voice in Argentina’s independent music scene, earning her a Gardel Award as well as another Latin Grammy nomination. She followed it with *El final de las cosas* (2023), an album that further explores her nostalgic sound and her talent for writing honest, emotionally direct songs about human relationships and the passage of time.

Alongside her music, Recanati has played an important role in reshaping Argentina’s music industry through Goza Records, a label she co-founded with Futurock to support women and gender-diverse artists. Her work as a researcher and storyteller also led to the book and podcast *Mostras del Rock*, which recover and celebrate the stories of women who pioneered rock music but were largely erased from its official history. Today, Barbi Recanati serves as a bridge between the legacy of classic rock and a new generation of independent, self-managed artists.
