“I want to do what makes me feel like a kid: experimenting, having fun, and trying to discover new things about this work,” says Pile’s Rick Maguire about All Fiction. It’s his indie rock band’s eighth record, and one that finds the ambitious group assembling its most texturally complex material yet—despite the fraught inspiration underscoring its restive lyrics. Alongside the blistering drums and scorched-earth riffs that first galvanized Pile’s dedicated fanbase, the band has incorporated elegiac strings, mystifying vocal corrosions, and haunting synths.

A newborn Ghent based band, with members of Deer and Youff. A mixture of deep rough guitarwaves, loud hyperkinetic drums and careless yells, combined with some kind of hypnotic singing. Some say fist pumping, others say pissed mumbling. We don’t really care.
A complex mind trip of rusty chairs, non-stop hitting your face. Not an actual thing, if you ask us. It‘s the feeling we like to produce. Again and again, until you feel nothing but happily ashamed. You might like to compare it with a lingering mess in your head. But once a noisy thought enters your mind, you can no longer ignore it. We’re not talking about real sounds. Actually, we’re not talking about anything at all.
